I understand that in ancient lore, the telling of a name gave power over the speaker and it was the job of the cunning magician to trick the spirits into revealing their names. Once declared and therefore known, they could then be manipulated. Puts a whole new slant on Adam’s initial power and role of ‘naming creation’.
